Topic: Labor Day Spectacular covering selected developments in Labor and Employment Law from the past year--Labor Day 2024-Labor Day 2025.


What they will learn: The panelists will cover selected developments in labor and employment law from August 2024 through August 2025. They will cover federal and state legislation, executive and agency actions under the Trump administration, and significant cases from the U.S. Supreme Court, federal appellate courts and Louisiana courts. Topics include employment discrimination, wage and hour law, the National Labor Relations Act, and noncompetes.

Presenter Bios

Professor William Corbett teaches and writes primarily in the area of labor and employment law. He joined the law faculty of the LSU Law Center in 1991, after practicing in Birmingham, Alabama with Burr & Forman. Professor Corbett has been a visiting faculty member at two law schools: William & Mary during the spring semester 1996, and the University of Georgia for three semesters. He served as Interim Vice Chancellor and then Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs at the LSU Law Center from May 1997 to January 2000. He served as Interim Co-Dean and then Interim Dean of the Law Center from August 2015 to July 2016. Professor Corbett served as Executive Director of the Louisiana Judicial College from 1998 to 2000. He has served as Executive Director of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel since January 2001.

 

At Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, LLP Katelyn Harrell is a key member of the Class Action and Mass Torts and ERISA and ESOP Class Action Teams. Her practice focuses primarily on defending employers, plan sponsors, plan administrators, individual fiduciaries, and independent trust companies against fiduciary claims in ESOP cases. Katelyn has extensive experience representing ESOP clients in Department of Labor investigations and litigation, as well as in class action lawsuits brought by private plaintiffs. Notably, she recently served as second chair in a complex ESOP class action trial. Beyond her ERISA-focused work, Katelyn handles a broad range of general employment litigation matters. She provides strategic counseling on preventative measures in employment issues and defends management in labor arbitrations. Her litigation experience spans Family and Medical Leave Act cases, and discrimination claims involving age, sex, disability, race, religion, and sexual harassment. Katelyn has also handled EEOC and NLRB charges and other administrative complaints through both administrative and judicial processes.
